Deborah, 4
Respiratory Disorder
"I wish to have a playset"
4-year-old Deborah lovesgoing to the local playground, but her respiratory disorder keeps her from the swings (her favorite) and slides some days.
Deborah's dad, Matthew, said his daughter is a rambunctious, energetic, and fun little girl, but that her critical illness comes with many challenges. She takes several medications and has daily vesting treatments to help clear her lungs.
Through it all, her resilience has shined. She’s doing really well, and the medicine is working. But some days are harder than others. Long walks or too much excitement can wear her out, dehydrate her quickly. And while most kids can just run wild without thinking twice, Deborah has to pace herself.
Make-A-Wish Ohio, Kentucky and Indiana granted Deborah's wish for a backyard playset. And not just any playset—one built just for her, right in her own yard."
It has brought a sense of normalcy, brightened her days and our lives," said Matthew. "I feel like we can take a breather and have some fun in our backyard and not worry about anything else."
